BTC and ETH futures trading volume surpasses $ 32 trillion in 2021

According to The Block Research, the total volume of Bitcoin and Ether futures trading in 2021 increased by 338% to reach $ 32 trillion. At the same time, the volume of options trading increased by 443%.

Analysts report that out of a total of $ 32 trillion, transactions in the bitcoin futures market amounted to about $ 22 trillion. Accordingly, the volume of trading in ETH futures amounted to $ 10 trillion. At the same time, May was the most successful month – the total volume of futures trading exceeded $ 4 trillion. Of these, transactions with Bitcoin account for $ 2.42 trillion, and with ETH – $ 1.64 trillion.

Binance remains the leader in terms of trading volume among cryptocurrency exchanges. On average, about half of BTC futures transactions and 35% -40% of ETH futures transactions are performed on it.

Significant growth was also recorded in the field of cryptocurrency options trading. So, if in 2020 the volume of trading in options for bitcoin and ether amounted to $ 71 billion, then this year the figure exceeded $ 387 billion.At the same time, the interest of traders in options on bitcoin was maximum in April, while a significant surge in trading volumes in options on ETH was recorded in May.

As for the platforms for trading cryptocurrency options, the overwhelming share of the market is occupied by the Deribit exchange – more than 90% of trading in options on BTC and ETH are carried out on it.

Recall that, according to a recent study by The Block, the total trading volume on centralized exchanges in 2021 reached $ 14 trillion, and transactions worth $ 1 trillion were made on decentralized exchanges. The growth was 689% and 858%, respectively.
