BTS’s Jimin undergoes emergency surgery, tests positive for Covid-19

JiminK-pop singer and dancer BTS, tested positive for Covid-19 and also underwent surgery for acute appendicitis, revealed the agency that takes care of the singer’s career, Big Hit Music, this Monday (31).

Jimin, whose full name is Park Ji-min, was admitted to the hospital on Sunday (30) after suffering sudden abdominal pain and a slight sore throat.

He tested positive for the coronavirus and was operated on for appendicitis shortly afterwards. “The surgery was successful and Jimin is recovering after the procedure,” reads the statement, adding that the musician will be hospitalized for treatment of Covid-19 and receive post-op care.

Jimin, 26, is at least the fourth member of the seven-member group to test positive for the coronavirus.

Rapper RM, vocalist Jin and rapper Suga tested positive in December, shortly after the group returned from a series of live shows in the United States, BTS’s first in the country since 2019, when they toured Asia, Europe and North America.

South Korea has kept overall Covid-19 cases and deaths low through tracking and testing, but the Omicron variant has become dominant this month, boosting cases to a daily record of 17,532 on Sunday.
