Budapest open to using EU budget to aid Ukraine

THE Hungary is open to using the EU budget to provide an assistance package of 50 billion euros in Ukrainethe political director of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's office told X today.

The announcement comes hours after the Financial Times reported that Brussels plans to hit Hungary's economy if Budapest blocks new aid to Kiev during an emergency European Council summit this week.

Brussels has devised a strategy to target Hungary's weaknesses, its currency and erode investor confidence in the country with the aim of hitting “jobs and growth” if Budapest refuses to lift its veto on aid to Kiev. the newspaper explained, citing a document drawn up by European officials.
