Buenos Aires opens luxury hotel in building that was once the tallest in Latin America

The capital of Buenos Aires started the year with great news: the opening of the Hotel Casa Lucia in the historic Mihanovich Building, once the tallest building in Latin America, designed to offer spectacular views of the Rio de la Plata.

Marking Único Hotels' first venture outside of Spain, the property is located on Calle Arroyo, a charming curved street in the Recoleta neighborhood, famous for housing the main fashion houses, art galleries, palaces and historic landmarks, including the Cemitério da Recoleta, in Buenos Aires.

The 142 rooms and suites are outfitted with contemporary art by award-winning Argentine artist Cristián Mohaded, whose work is featured at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Musée Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Making the most of the stunning views, many rooms and suites feature balconies with outdoor showers, lounge chairs, and alfresco dining options, giving guests the opportunity to savor views of the city and Rio de la Plata.

Prepared to present a new culinary destination to the city, Casa Lucia has the Cantina Restaurant which is inspired by authentic Argentine aromas and flavors and offers, in addition to the main hall, six rooms with private service and natural light.

For those who want something more popular, the Le Club Bacan a cocktail bar run by Martín Suaya, will bring a vibrant new meeting point for locals and travelers, with more than 400 varieties of Argentine wines curated by Master Sommelier Aldo Garcia and always with a DJ livening up the place.

Promising guests a sanctuary in the city, the hotel will house a luxurious spa consisting of three treatment cabins, a state-of-the-art gym and a 16-meter pool framed by mirrors and dominated by a photograph by artist Marc Zimmerman.

The Hotel lobby also attracts attention with a large-scale, custom-made mural by local artist Cristina Codern, which promises to have captured the city's vibrant and joyful energy.

Bringing together the latest creative talent from local design and architecture houses, the year-long renovation was led by Buenos Aires-based firm Torrado Arquitectos, along with the South American design firm's interior design team. Fernanda Schuch Studios.

Hotel Casa Lucia rates start at US$670 per night. For more information, visit: www.hotelcasalucia.com/pt/.
