Building is evacuated after sinkhole sinking in Recife

A three-story building in Boa Viagem, south of Recife, had to be hastily evacuated due to structural damage after the sinking of a mass pit.

According to the city’s Civil Defense, the incident caused the collapse of the land near the building, which could pose a risk to the safety of residents.

The Bonelli Building, on Capitão Zuzinha Street, in Boa Viagem, was evacuated around 1 am, with the support of the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu), which even removed residents with mobility difficulties.

Civil Defense advised residents of three apartments not to return to the property until a more detailed inspection is carried out.

The location was flagged and a team from Regional Plana returned this Friday morning (27) to continue inspections and ensure the safety of the area. The results of the inspection should be released today.
