Bulgaria: Armed Forces Day to be celebrated this year without military parade

On May 6 Bulgaria celebrates the Day of Courage and the Armed Forces, which is traditionally marked by a military parade. However, this year the parade will not take place.

Instead, there will be demonstrations of the capabilities of the Armed Forces across the country, Defense Ministry spokesman Mitko Dimitrov was quoted as saying by the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA).

The military parade on May 6 did not take place in either 2020 or 2021, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Citizens can observe the military capabilities of the Land Forces at the Novo Selo training center, the Air Force at Graf Ignatievo Air Base, the Navy at Varna and Burgas, and the special forces at Tsrouna Field.

On May 6, the building of the Presidential Administration will remain open to the public. Citizens will also be able to visit the National Museum of Military History in Sofia, the Naval Museum in Varna and the Aviation Museum in Krumovo free of charge.

May 6 was established as Andrew’s Day by Prince Alexander I on January 9, 1880.
