Bulgaria: Hoteliers prepare to raise prices to survive

Hotel overnight stays will become more expensive, according to a national survey by the Bulgarian Hotel Executives Association (BAHE).

The BAHE association found that 80% of hoteliers believe that in the coming months they will have to increase the prices of accommodation in order to survive. Almost half of the respondents predict an increase of 10 to 20% and about 40% are of the opinion that they will be able to face an increase of up to 10%.

The survey, conducted between December 13th and 17th, included hoteliers managing more than 14,000-room accommodations or almost 10% of the hotel base in Bulgaria, which is located in three-star accommodation with more than 15 rooms, which excludes hostels and apartments. for short term rent.

When asked to name the most serious challenge their business faced in 2021, a third of hotel executives pointed out staff shortages, and many of them were just as adamant about rising electricity prices. The obligation of customers to display the green certificate when going to restaurants, spas and organized events was the most serious obstacle for their business for 14.4% of respondents and in fourth place, with 11.7%, is the lack of adequate marketing of Bulgaria as a destination in international markets.

While the BAHE survey at the beginning of the year found that just over 50% of respondents were adamant that there would be a serious shortage of staff in the coming months, now, at the end of the year, this view is shared by more than 80%, especially for waitresses, waitresses and bartenders.
