The Pamporovo ski resort in Bulgaria’s Smolyan province has seen a 30% to 40% increase in visitors since the start of the season, according to its chief executive Marian Belyakov.
In total, more than 100,000 tourists have visited the resort since the beginning of December, while there is an increase in the number of both domestic and foreign visitors.
According to Belyakov, speaking to BTA, in the midst of a pandemic, there is a change in the market, with significantly fewer tourists going to Pamporovo with organized groups. More than 50% of the resort’s customers are Bulgarians or foreigners who booked their holidays independently, without relying on travel agents.
There is an increase in visitors from neighboring Balkan countries, who book their skiing holidays on their own and arrive at the resort by car.
At the same time, there is an increase in tourists from Britain and Ireland, who close their holidays in Pamporovo via the internet. The number of tourists from Russia has also increased this winter.
