The Ministry of Education and Science has published on its website the list of projects approved to finance 141 Bulgarian Sunday schools abroad. Funding totaling BGN 1,644,000 under the National Bulgarian Language and Culture Program will be given to 11,727 Bulgarian students in the new school year 2022/2023.
A total of 58 Sunday schools in Ukraine applied to join the program, 55 of which were approved. The 55th Bulgarian Sunday School in Odessa, Ukraine has 5,395 Bulgarian students who study Bulgarian language, literature, geography and history from 1st grade to 11th grade, i.e. from the 1st grade of primary education to the last grade of secondary school education.
Funds under the program are used to purchase textbooks and supplementary reading, traditional costumes and traditional instruments. The aim of the program is to promote the protection and dissemination of the Bulgarian language, national and cultural background abroad, as well as the national, cultural and spiritual identity of Bulgarians around the world and Bulgarian communities abroad.
