On the second day of the Munich Security Conference, Bulgarian Prime Minister Kirill Petkov held a series of bilateral meetings with European leaders, including British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. .
Petkov and Johnson discussed bilateral relations and the importance of creating opportunities for good education and for young people to stay in Bulgaria and Britain.
Earlier Saturday, Petkov met with Moldovan and Ukrainian Presidents Maya Sandu and Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.
Petkov and Sadu analyzed their common goals of fighting corruption and respecting the rule of law. The two also discussed energy security issues. Sandu invited Petkov to visit the Moldovan city of Taraklija, which is home to a large Bulgarian community.
Petkov and Zelensky signed a joint statement in support of Ukraine’s European perspective. They also discussed energy security concerns in light of the evolving situation between Russia and Ukraine. The Bulgarian prime minister and the Ukrainian president also expressed hope that tensions in the region would escalate.
During his meeting with Garibashvili, Petkov discussed opportunities for economic co-operation in the field of information technology, co-ordination of logistical support in the Black Sea, as well as Bulgaria’s support for Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic course.
During the second day of the Munich Forum, Petkov also met with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Annette Kreber-Riel, Google’s vice president for government affairs and public policy in Europe.
The president of Northern Macedonia, Stevo Pentarovski, wrote on his Facebook page on Saturday that he had spoken with Bulgarian Prime Minister Petkov on the sidelines of the conference. According to Pentarovski’s post, they discussed the “dynamics of the (bilateral) working groups, the productivity of this plan and the opportunities for significant progress in the European field, which would mean mutual success” of the two countries.
On Friday, delegations from Bulgaria and northern Macedonia, led by the two countries’ prime ministers, Kirill Petkov and Dimitar Kovachevsky, met on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference. Also present were Deputy Prime Minister of Northern Macedonia Bojan Maricic and Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani. The aim was to continue the dialogue between the two governments.
The two Prime Ministers praised the work of the expert groups and the direct communication and agreed that sectoral cooperation was a good way to strengthen relations and strengthen political dialogue.
