Bulgaria puts a “brake” in the resolution to integrate Northern Macedonia into the European Union

Bulgaria wants to put a brake on Northern Macedonia’s accession course, with the consequence of pressure on the European Parliament to delay the reporting of a report on its accession course. Sofia accuses the rapporteur of the report of being too favorable to Skopje, Politico reports. Bulgaria’s 17 MEPs in the European Parliament unanimously signed a letter, denouncing the Austrian MEP and rapporteur of the exhibition, Thomas Vaic. They accuse him of being influenced by the government of Northern Macedonia and that he ignored violence against the Bulgarian minority in the country. However, Vaic himself said that he was targeted because he did not get in the pressures he was accepted by Sofia. Bulgaria has long accused its neighbor of falsifying their common history and denies the Bulgarian roots of the language and identity of Northern Macedonia.
