Bulgaria, Ukraine and Russia set new daily record for Covid-19 deaths

Bulgaria reported a record number of daily deaths by Covid-19 on Tuesday (8). The high was also registered in Ukraine and Russia, which reported 833 and 1,211 deaths in 24 hours, respectively. The three countries, which now report the highest number since the start of the pandemic, have coronavirus vaccination rates that are below the European Union average.

In Bulgaria, the last period recorded 334 deaths caused by Covid-19. More than 8,500 people occupy hospital beds to treat the disease in the country, including 734 in intensive care units (ICU).

The Balkan country introduced a health passport in most enclosed spaces last month in an effort to contain the spread of the infection and speed up vaccinations in the country, where just 30% of adults have received full vaccinations.

Germany reported 39,160 new cases in just the past 24 hours. Ukraine, meanwhile, has reported a total of 3.11 million coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic and 73,390 deaths. 18,988 new infections were reported in the last 24 hours.
