An elderly couple was attacked by an ox in the district of Sede Figueira, rural area of Chapecó (SC). Armindo Pereira, aged 65, died at the scene, while his wife, aged 63, suffered minor injuries. The occurrence was confirmed by the 6th Battalion of the Santa Catarina Fire Department.
The attack took place around 8pm last Friday (5). According to firefighters, a SAMU squad was already on the highway when they received a call to the location, where Armindo's death was confirmed. The police found the elderly man's wife conscious and with stable vital signs.
However, according to Sergeant Duan, the elderly woman was confused and presented injuries similar to abrasions, but without bleeding or signs of fracture. At the scene, she was unable to say whether she was injured during the attack or when she was seeking help for her husband.
Armindo was laid to rest the following day, Saturday (6), at the Visão de Missões Pentecostal Church, at 2 pm, and buried in the Linha Cascavel Cemetery at 5 pm on the same day.
In a post on social media, Aline Pereira mourned her father's death.
“He was our fortress, a beacon of wisdom and unconditional love, whose light will never be extinguished in our hearts.”
Pitbull attack in RJ happened on the same day
The serious animal attack that caused the death of Armindo Pereira and injured his wife last Friday (5) was the second on the same day in Brazil. On that Friday morning, writer and poet Roseana Murray, 73 years old, was attacked by three pitbull dogs in Saquarema, Lagos Region of Rio de Janeiro.
Roseana was on Avenida Ministro Salgado Filho when she was attacked by the animals. She received initial care at the scene but, due to the severity of her injuries, she had to be transported by helicopter to Alberto Torres State Hospital, where she remains hospitalized in stable condition.
André Murray, 55 years old, one of the writer's children, declared that his mother “is recovering very well” and thanked the messages of affection and solidarity that the family has been receiving.
