Burbok to DW: Continued support for Ukraine

At a time when Russia is threatening Ukraine with expanding attacks, German Foreign Minister Analena Berbock is promising Kyiv more support than sending weapons.

Russia threatens and German Foreign Minister Analena Berbock responds in the most categorical way. In an exclusive interview with DW, he takes a stand on Moscow’s announcements that it will expand its attacks to other parts of Ukraine:

“We support Ukraine not only with our solidarity and not only by repeating every day that Russia is flagrantly violating international law, but also through military assistance, so that the Ukrainians defend their country, their territory. Russia uses every time a different argument in an attempt to justify its actions. This time it claims that it is attacking because of the military support of foreign countries to Ukraine. Even though it has already attacked Kyiv in the past, but also western regions of Ukraine. We therefore have to just with new propaganda from Russia”.

We remind you that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told Russian media that military operations will be extended to the western territories of Ukraine. Explaining the Kremlin’s intentions, the head of Russian diplomacy emphasized that military targets will be moved away from the current fronts of the war, as long as the West continues to “overwhelm” Ukraine with weapons. At the same time, Sergey Lavrov ruled out peace talks with Kyiv for the immediate future.

“We provide aid to the refugee”

Asked by DW about Germany’s support for Ukraine beyond military aid, Foreign Minister Analena Burbock replied:

“We are constantly looking at new ways of support. We could, for example, help the Ukrainian authorities in investigations, or in the demining of various cities. Already today we support the Ukrainians by providing assistance in the medical field and the refugee. And when there is something we can do more, even and as far as financial support is concerned, then we are looking into that too.”
