At least 46 people died in a bus accident on a highway in western Bulgaria this Tuesday morning (23), authorities said.
There are children among the victims and seven people with burns were rushed to hospital in the Bulgarian capital Sofia, the head of the Ministry of Interior’s fire safety department, Nikolai Nikolov, told BTV.
“At least 45 people died after a bus crashed and caught fire,” Nikolov said. The Ministry of Interior updated the number of victims to 46, and reported that the total number of passengers was 53.
The accident happened around 2 am local time (9 pm Brasília time), he said. The scene of the accident has already been isolated by the police.
The bus had North Macedonia plates and most of the victims were from the country, an official at the North Macedonia embassy in Sofia told BTV.
