Bus is set on fire and municipal lines are suspended in Porto Velho (RO)

A bus from Companhia Municipal de Porto Velho (RO) was set on fire last Monday night (13), in the Pedrinhas neighborhood. The capital’s bus lines were temporarily suspended due to threats of new attacks.

The case occurred near the intersection between Lauro Sodré and Imigrantes avenues.

The Fire Department responded to the incident. However, until the last update of this report, no further information about the case was provided.

In a statement, the Porto Velho Municipal Bus Company informed that the suspension of municipal lines was adopted to guarantee passenger safety:

“We inform you that all lines are temporarily suspended today, due to threats of new attacks against public transport buses.

According to the Municipal Department of Traffic, Mobility and Transport (Semtran), most of Porto Velho’s public transport vehicles returned to circulation this Tuesday morning (14), however, as new threats of vandalism emerged, the The Ministry opted for a 50% reduction in the fleet, which will operate until 7:30 pm on all lines.

Semtran highlighted that Porto Velho City Hall is in constant dialogue with the Military Police and the Municipal Bus Company (COM), with the aim of adopting the necessary measures to guarantee the safety of those who need public transport, which is the priority in this moment.
