An accident involving a bus that overturned on the Linha Vermelha viaduct to Campo de São Cristóvão, in the north of Rio de Janeiro, left one person dead and 25 injured on Friday night (6).
The bus on line 476 was traveling from Méier, in the north of the city, to Leblon, in the south of Rio, when it overturned at around 10:40 pm yesterday.
In a statement, the Rio Ônibus company said that it “deeply regrets what happened and is providing assistance to the victims, while awaiting the results of the expert analysis to understand the cause of the accident”.
Videos circulating on social media show the bus overturned on the road, with the wreckage of the vehicle scattered across the road.
The Military Police reported that officers were called to check the accident involving a bus. According to the corporation, firefighters arrived at the scene to provide assistance to the victims.
According to the Fire Department, agents from four stations were called to provide assistance. Five victims were released at the scene and another 20 injured people needed medical attention at hospitals in the capital.
Three of them were taken to the Evandro Freire Municipal Hospital, on Governador Island; four injured people were taken to the Miguel Couto Municipal Hospital, in Leblon; the Souza Aguiar Municipal Hospital, located in the center of the capital, received 6 victims; another six people were treated at the Salgado Filho Municipal Hospital, in Méier. One of the rescued people was also taken to a private hospital.
