Bus overturns while driver tries to avoid seizure of the vehicle and leaves 5 dead in DF

A bus overturned on Saturday (21) and left at least 5 dead and 30 injured on BR-070, at Ceilândia, in the Federal District. The accident happened while the driver tried to flee to avoid the seizure of the vehicle. The information was confirmed to CNN by the Federal Highway Police (PRF) and the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT).

The vehicle was approached by an ANTT team in front of a PRF Operational Unit during an inspection of passenger transport vehicles. As the vehicle, which came from Maranhão, was not authorized to transport passengers interstate and did so clandestinely.

Because of this, the bus should have been escorted to the nearest bus terminal. There, the vehicle would be seized and passengers could then travel using commercial lines.

As reported by the Civil Police of the Federal District to CNN when he realized that the vehicle would be seized, the 32-year-old driver took off with the vehicle at high speed and, as a result, lost control of the steering and overturned.

He and his 56-year-old father, who owns the bus, were arrested red-handed for the crimes of homicide and bodily harm.

After the accident, the Fire Department was called to the scene and assessed the 32 passengers in the vehicle. 30 people were injured and four died at the scene. The fifth death was found at the Taguatinga Regional Hospital.

According to what the corporation informed the CNN , seven victims were taken to the Base Hospital and another 11 were taken to the Regional Hospitals of Ceilândia and Taguatinga. Of these, four people were in serious condition when they were transported.
