30-year-old Chinese businessman Dylan Huang was kidnapped from a golf course in Hertfordshire, UK, demanding a ransom of $15 million in Bitcoin. This is reported by BBC with reference to the case materials.
According to the publication, the abduction occurred in October 2023. Juan was playing golf with his assistant and two other women. Five attackers set up an ambush, sprayed an unknown substance into the eyes of the victims, and then took the businessman away in a black Audi Q7.
The businessman was given a bag over his head, noted in the publication, and his hands and feet were handcuffed. According to law enforcement officials, he was threatened with a knife.
Juan was taken to a house in Thursley. He was placed in a cage and kept for a total of about 30 hours. The victim was repeatedly beaten and not allowed to go to the toilet.
The attackers demanded a ransom of £12 million (about $15 million) in Bitcoin. Juan tried to borrow money from friends, since he was unable to pay such an amount right away.
He was eventually thrown from the car in Surrey. As part of the investigation into the abduction, 35-year-old Tianfu Guo was detained. Previously, this incident was not covered in the press, since the court brought it up for consideration only in April 2024.
Guo was detained shortly after the attackers released Huang. Money and passports of other persons with Chinese citizenship were found on him. Law enforcement officers suspect that some of the defendants involved in the case are hiding in China.
Guo himself denies the charges of conspiracy and kidnapping. The investigation into this case continues.
