Businessman sworn by PCC is murdered in Guarulhos; find out how airport security works

São Paulo – Guarulhos International Airport, one of the busiest in Latin America, receives millions of passengers annually.

Businessman Antônio Vinicius Lopes Gritzbach, aged 38, was killed in a shooting attack that took place at São Paulo International Airport, in Guarulhos, in the metropolitan region of the state, on Friday afternoon (8).

Faced with this large flow of people, security becomes a crucial point. From the journey to one of the terminals, through boarding, a series of measures are adopted to identify possible threats and guarantee everyone’s integrity.

Airport security is an extremely important topic, and in Brazil it is the responsibility of different security institutions.

Understand assignments

São Paulo International Airport, as an entry and exit point for the country, has several security forces, each with specific duties. This diversity of agents guarantees complete and effective monitoring of airport areas, both internal and external.

The Federal Police are primarily responsible for security in restricted areas of the airport, such as the runways and embarkation and arrival areas. Your duties include:

• Passport and visa inspection: Verification of documentation for all passengers entering and leaving the country.
• Combating drug trafficking and other crimes: Expertise in the prevention and repression of transnational crimes.
• Protection of authorities and dignitaries: Ensure the safety of authorities and personalities using the airport.

The Civil Police operates in public areas of the airport, such as the lobby and access areas. Your duties include:

• Crime investigation: Responsible for investigating common crimes, such as theft, robbery and other crimes.
• Incident response: Responding to calls from the population and recording incident reports.

The Military Police carry out extensive patrols in the internal and external areas of the airport, with the aim of preventing crimes and ensuring the safety of passengers and employees.

The Federal Revenue Service is responsible for monitoring goods and merchandise that enter and leave the country, working to prevent smuggling and tax evasion.

The Federal Highway Police carries out policing on the highways that provide access to the airport, such as Rodovia dos Bandeirantes. Your duties include:

• Vehicle inspection: Verification of documentation and condition of vehicles.
• Combating organized crime: Responsible for repressing crimes such as cargo theft and drug trafficking.

The Guarulhos Municipal Civil Guard carries out inspection and control actions in areas close to the airport, such as parking lots and access roads.

One Shooting occurred at Guarulhos Airport, in Terminal 2, on Friday afternoon (8), and left at least one person dead .

According to an investigation by the CNN the target of the attack was businessman Antônio Vinicius Gritzbach, linked to the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC), who ordered the death of drug trafficker Anselmo Becheli Santa Fausta, known as Cara Preta, in 2021.

According to information from the Military Police, three other people were injured in the shooting, and were taken to the Guarulhos General Hospital.

According to the PM, around 5 individuals disembarked from a black vehicle and fired shots at the businessman. A car with the characteristics was found abandoned on an avenue near the airport. The PM is investigating whether it was the vehicle used by the criminals in the attack.

Gritzbach would be in the process of plea bargaining with the São Paulo Public Ministry. Cara Preta was considered one of the PCC’s main drug suppliers.
