Businesswoman who flaunted her assets in Dubai is arrested for possible embezzlement of R$35 million in corporate fraud

A businesswoman was arrested under suspected of embezzling R$35 million from a business group specialized in credit cards and credit advances.

According to Itatiaiathe businesswoman is Samira Monti Bacha Rodrigues, 40 years old, from Nova Lima.

Operation Dubai, launched by the Civil Police of Minas Gerais this Wednesday (26), resulted in the fulfillment of 12 temporary arrest warrants and 13 search and seizure warrants in the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte.

The businesswoman, the main person under investigation and partner in the business group, allegedly used her position of trust to falsify documents, spreadsheets and bank details, diverting amounts with the help of third parties.

The fraud, which began in 2020 and peaked in August of the same year, was discovered around 30 days ago.

According to the Civil Police, the embezzled amounts were converted into luxury goods, such as jewelry, imported vehicles, airline tickets, international travel and cryptocurrencies.

During the investigation, invoices were seized from jewelry purchases in Dubai, some worth more than US$100,000.

The suspect and her husband traveled frequently, returning on different dates to avoid being caught with the smuggled goods.

According to the PMMG delegate, the criminal scheme was organized and included the co-optation of employees to keep quiet about the irregularities. The embezzled assets were laundered through jewelry stores in Minas Gerais.

In addition to the 12 suspects arrested, others were released for cooperating with the investigation or due to health conditions. The seized assets will be evaluated by the courts and the victims will be able to claim the material for compensation for losses.
