By order of A. Xanthou for the ICU

A. Xanthos, competent head of the SYRIZA department, submitted a topical question to the Minister of Health, regarding the prioritization of admissions to the ICUs, in order to prevent internal party shocks caused yesterday, on the occasion of his statements.

The submission of this question was announced earlier today, by SYRIZA executives who are on an “open line” with Alexis Tsipras.

The announcement of the topical question submitted by Mr. Xanthos states:

With explanations to the Minister of Health, the Head of the Health Department of the Central Committee of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance asks for explanations for the intubated out of intensive care, for the “shadows” in the management of the waiting list and the criteria for prioritization of admissions to ICUs. , Andreas Xanthos.

The pandemic is out of control, the pressure on the NSS is unbearable and the complete disorganization of public care structures has lowered safety standards in patient care, leaving dozens of intubated patients out of the ICU, who are losing the battle with life every day, worsening the international the country’s position in the “hard indicators” of the health crisis and especially in mortality on a weekly basis.

The Mitsotakis government is watching with provocative inaction and oligarchy the evolving health tragedy in the country, without taking any measures to prevent the complete functional collapse of the NSS and its complete inability to properly care not only for patients with Covid-19 but also all other patients with serious and life-threatening illnesses.

In the face of this dramatic impasse, the only realistic solution is to divide the hospitalization of covid cases (intubated and non-intubated) by ordering large private hospitals and making full use of military hospitals. Only in this way can covid clinics and ICUs be decongested in public hospitals.

The dozens of intubated people outside the ICU and the daily drama of their relatives for a valuable position in an Intensive Care Unit, is the top act of government failure and its criminal political responsibilities for the untimely preparation of the NSS in view of the evolving epidemic wave. So, as the waiting list for admission to the ICU increases, so does the opaque management by EKAB-EKEPY and the absence of medical criteria for prioritization of cases, becomes more glaring. And the more the government and the Ministry of Health refuse to give convincing explanations and guarantee equal treatment of citizens, the more we lead to a growing social distrust and a generalized crisis of public trust.

According to the SYRIZA-PS MP, the demand for transparency, credibility and an emergency plan to save human lives and keep the NSS standing, is now universal.

As it is not tolerable to lose helpless people every day and without the required care outside the ICU, strengthening the climate of insecurity in society, undermining the credibility of the public health system and “triggering” aggression against its officials, the competent Minister asked:

1. How many patients have lost their lives outside the ICU since the onset of the pandemic? What is the average length of stay of intubated patients outside the ICU? What is the real operational capability of the system (staffing, infrastructure) in ICU beds per hospital and if the conditions are met
their safe operation? What are the scientific criteria for managing the waiting list for admission to the ICU and what does it intend to do for the equal and quality care of all citizens, especially those in need of intensive care?
2. Do what has been publicly complained about the absence of medical criteria and prioritization of ICU admissions apply? ”
