By the end of April, the UN will respond if Palestine joins as a member state

The United Nations announced yesterday that it will respond to Palestine's request for full membership in the UN by the end of April, with Israel reacting sharply. “The Council has decided that this discussion should take place within April,” said Malta's ambassador to the United Nations, Vanessa Fraser, whose country holds the rotating presidency of the SA this month. In September 2011, the president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, initiated a process for the “admission of the State of Palestine to the UN”. The effort was never completed; the Palestinians eventually obtained, by a vote of the General Assembly in November 2012, “non-member observer state status.” Citing Israel's attack on the Gaza Strip, they restarted the accession process last week in a letter to the organization's Secretary-General and Security Council.
