As it became known, BYD electric vehicles for the first time went on sale outside of China. Distributor BYD Motorysa held the event in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia. It announced that the company had just shipped the first 500 units of Qin PLUS DM-i and Song PLUS DM-i electric vehicles to the country, marking the first order for DM-i models outside of China.
The Chinese car manufacturer entered the Colombian passenger car market back in 2019. Since then, the brand has delivered thousands of passenger electric vehicles to Bogota, Medellin and other cities. BYD Motorysa said that these two new models have a modern and futuristic design and are equipped with the latest BYD DM-i hybrid platform, which means they combine stylish design and high performance.

BYD Motorysa also added that the new electric vehicles will also boost the development of the national auto industry on new energy sources. Last year alone, BYD received orders for more than 1,550 electric buses from the country. This is 96.5% of the region’s electric bus market, as well as 99% of Bogota’s electric bus market. The Chinese brand also said last year that it would bring more than 1,000 plug-in hybrid models to Colombia, with the company already finding dealers in several cities across the country.
