It has been known for several years that as of January 2023, Chrome will drop support for Manifest V2 (the old “platform” for extensions), leaving only Manifest V3. The problem is that all existing ad blockers are built specifically for Manifest V2 – V3 has a lot of restrictions. After a while, nothing has changed, Google has not abandoned its plans, and recently the news about it began to flicker again on the network, in connection with which users expressed concern for their favorite extensions. However, apparently, there was no need to worry: the popular ad blocker AdGuard introduced an extension built for Manifest V3.
AdGuard MV3 is already available in the Chrome Web Store, but so far this special extension is experimental and was created, in fact, for open testing. During the development process, programmers encountered certain limitations, due to which they had to heavily rework the existing service and adjust it to new rules. For example, Manifest V3 has a limit of 5,000 dynamic rules for a single extension and a limit of 330,000 static rules for all browser extensions. The developers have detailed all the nuances of creating AdGuard MV3, problems and solutions in their blog.
