Cable car accident in Italy. Nine dead, two children were saved: photo

Today, May 23, in the north of Italy, there was an accident on the cable car. Nine people died, two children were seriously injured. Reported by ANSA.

The cable car Stresa-Mottarone, which transports people from the resort town of Stresa in the Piedmont region to the top of the mountain near Lake Maggiore, broke a rope.

The 11-passenger cabin fell into the woods. Nine people died on the spot. Two children, five and nine years old, were taken by airplanes in serious condition to a hospital in Turin.

The accident occurred about 300 meters from the end of the route, which generally lasts about 20 minutes.

The Stresa-Mottarone cable car reopened on April 24 after a coronavirus lockdown.
