Caio Paes de Andrade asks to leave and interim may take over Petrobras this Wednesday

A virtual meeting was opened this Tuesday (3) to evaluate the departure of the president of Petrobras, Caio Mário Paes de Andrade.

Until 9 am this Wednesday (4), the members of the Board of Directors must decide whether the current head of the oil company will leave with the right to the millionaire bonus on 2022 profits or not. The tendency is for them to approve the payment.

With the departure to assume the Secretariat of Management in the government of Tarcísio Freitas (Republicans), in São Paulo, Andrade must pass the baton to a director, who will temporarily assume the presidency until the arrival of the appointed by the new government.

João Henrique Rittershaussen, director of Production Development, is most likely to do this. The same had already happened with the departure of José Mauro Coelho, who was replaced by Fernando Borges, Director of Exploration and Production.

Coelho spent a month commanding Petrobras, until he actually presented his resignation, leaving the position with an interim until the end of the procedures.

The first received notice of his resignation on May 23, and the second took over the company on June 28.

Appointment of the new government

The Ministry of Mines and Energy sent, this Tuesday (3), a statement to the Board of Directors of Petrobras warning that Senator Jean Paul Prates (PT) will be appointed to take over the command of the oil company.

The formal nomination, however, has not yet been made official. According to the folder, it depends on ‘procedures in the Civil House of the Presidency of the Republic’.

Senator for Rio Grande do Norte, Jean Paul Prates had already been chosen to take charge of Petrobras.

He even participated in at least three meetings with the top echelon of the state-owned company with the presence of Paes de Andrade.

The exchange, however, is not simple: it necessarily needs a background check on Prates and two elections. One to officially lead him to the position of director of the oil company and another to make him president.

For that to happen, Paes de Andrade’s departure needs to be formalized.

The problem is that, of the ten members that would remain with his departure, half became part of the collegiate during the management of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), including President Gileno Gurjão Barreto, who was subordinate to Andrade in the Secretariat for Debureaucratization.

The invitation accepted by Paes de Andrade was to head the Secretariat for Management and Digital Government in the state of São Paulo, creating a platform similar to gov.br, idealized by him at the federal level.

Interlocutors from Tarcísio told the CNN that there is no plan B and, therefore, the governor would be willing to wait as long as necessary for Andrade to move to São Paulo and take office.

THE CNN he also found out that, even before his formalization in office, people who should be part of his team are already representing the future secretary in meetings and starting work.

In a material fact disclosed to the market, Petrobras says that “the nomination, after being made effective, will be submitted to the internal governance process, observing the Policy for Nominating Senior Management Members, for the analysis of legal, management and integrity requirements and subsequent manifestation of the Eligibility Committee, pursuant to article 21, paragraph 4, of Decree 8945/2016, amended by Decree 11048/2022”.
