The city council of Cajamar (SP), in Greater São Paulo, made official in an edition of the Official Gazette published last Friday (12) the dismissal of the head of the city's Public Security area. The dismissals occurred after 26 weapons disappeared from a Municipal Civil Guard (GCM) base.
As published in the Official Gazette, the municipal secretary of Social Security and Defense, Edmilson José Padovani, and the deputy secretary of the department, Jurandi do Carmo Silva, were dismissed. The commander of the GCM, Cássio Aparecido Gonçalves, also left office.
In the same edition, Antonio Braz and Reinaldo José Gomes were appointed as secretary and deputy secretary of Security, respectively. For the position of interim commander of the GCM, the name of Aguimar Pereira da Silva was chosen.
A CNN He contacted the city hall to comment on the dismissals, but has not yet received a response. On Thursday (11), when the case came to light, the municipal administration said it would remove the agents involved in the case and assured that it “reaffirms its unwavering commitment to transparency, ethics and legality in all its actions, fully cooperating with the competent authorities to clarify the facts.”
The disappearance of the 26 weapons is being investigated by the Civil Police. The police report about the disappearance of the materials was registered on Tuesday (9).
City hall did not detail which weapons were missing. In August 2020, the municipality announced that it had received new weapons for the Municipal Civil Guard. At the time, 60 .40 pistols and 8 .40 carbines were acquired by the administration.
