California customer sues Hermes for refusing to sell them Birkin bag

A California woman and man have filed a lawsuit against the fashion house Hermes, claiming that the company does not allow them to buy a Birkin bag unless they have previously purchased other Hermes products. The lawsuit states that customers of the house are essentially forced to spend tens of thousands of dollars on scarves, shoes and belts just for the chance to purchase one of the most coveted women's handbags in the world. One of the plaintiffs, Tina Cavalleri, claims in the lawsuit that in 2022 she inquired whether she could purchase such a bag from the French company and the response she received was that “special bags go to female customers who consistently support our business.” The second plaintiff, Mark Glinoga, attempted to purchase a Birkin bag last year but was advised by the defendant's sales representatives to purchase other products in order to eventually obtain a Birkin bag.
