California Gov. Gavin Newsom proposed Monday that the state Constitution be amended to “safeguard the right to vote,” after the Politico news website leaked a draft Supreme Court ruling that seeks to overturn the 1973 which protected the right of women to abortion.
“We are proposing an amendment to the California Constitution guaranteeing the right to choose. We can not trust the Supreme Court to protect the right to abortion, so we will do it. Women will remain protected here,” Newsom said in a post. on Twitter.
Earlier, after a draft of the Conservative majority leaked to the media in the Supreme Court, which showed that a vote had already been taken to overturn the historic 1973 ruling, Newsom tweeted: “Our daughters, our sisters, the “Our mothers and grandmothers will not be silenced. People will hear their anger. California will not be left with folded arms. We will fight like crazy.”
