Greenville was a small mountain town in California with strong bonds between residents and a sense of community.
Only now they are ashes…
California: Images of biblical destruction in a city that was reduced to ashes by fires
The heatwave that hit California triggered one of the largest wildfires the state has seen in years.
Greenville, a community of 1,000 people, burned for the most part and the images of the disaster are gruesome.

The wind finally changed direction, only the good news they came too late for Greenville. Homes, businesses, the whole city center, are now a thing of the past.
Authorities have not yet estimated the magnitude of the disaster, but local sheriff Todd Johns says “more than 100 houses have burned down in and near the city.”

The fire (Dixie Fire) has swallowed some 1,464 square miles, an area larger than Los Angeles.
No casualties have been reported so far, but the blaze continues to threaten more than 10,000 homes.
