The alleged perpetrator of the massacre in California Lunar New Year is dead, appears to have committed suicide, Los Angeles police said Sunday.
“The suspect sustained a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene,” Sheriff Robert Luna said, describing the manhunt that ended with a gunshot from the alleged killer’s white pickup truck.
The suspect has been identified as Hu Can Tran, 72.
“I can confirm that there is no other suspect” in the massacre, Mr. Luna said, adding that the motive for the Monterey Park attack which cost the lives of ten people it is not clear as of this stage.
“The investigation is still ongoing. Homicide investigators are working around the clock to gather additional information and determine the motive for this extremely tragic event,” said Sheriff Luna, as reported by international agencies and relayed by the Athens News Agency.
US President Joe Biden also ordered flags on all public buildings to be flown at half-staff in tribute to the victims of the carnage until sundown on Thursday, according to a White House press release.
