The actor Michael Stuhlbarg known for his role in the film “Call Me By Your Name” (2017) and in the TV series “Boardwalk Empire” (2010-2014), was hit in the back of the head by a rock on Sunday night (31) in New York, according to local authorities.
Police responded to a “call of an attack in progress in the vicinity of 90th Street and East Drive” near the reservoir in Central Park to find a man, 55, who “was struck in the head with an unknown object.”
“A preliminary investigation determined that a 27-year-old man threw a rock, striking the victim in the back of the head, causing an abrasion,” the NYPD said in an email to CNN on Monday (1st).
“The victim chased the 27-year-old man to the front of 9 East 91st Street, where uniformed officers took the attacker into custody without further incident. The victim refused medical attention at the scene,” NYPD added.
A police officer confirmed to the CNN that Stuhlbarg was the victim hit by a rock.
The suspect, Xavier Israel, faces an assault charge according to court records.
In a statement to CNN , Rachel Best, press secretary for the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, said the judge in the case granted the bail request. Israel's next hearing is scheduled for April 5.
