Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 does not allow you to turn off crossplay: console fans are horrified

Today, October 28th, the highly anticipated shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 officially launched, so that millions of gamers around the world can happily play through the story campaign or, more likely, fight in multiplayer. True, with online battles, fans of the most popular shooter franchise in the world discovered a very strange feature – on PC and Xbox consoles (past and current generations), gamers cannot turn off crossplay support. Probably, the developers decided to block the feature in order to reduce the waiting time for matches, because the more players in the queue, the faster the lobby gathers.

On PC and Xbox, there is not even an option to turn off crossplay.

At the same time, gamers who prefer the PlayStation console, whether it be PS4 or PS5, have no problems with crossplay – in the game settings, fans of the Japanese game console can disable this option in order to fight exclusively with other gamers from the same platform. Naturally, the audience took this restriction extremely negatively, because not all shooter fans actually support the idea of crossplay between platforms. There are quite good reasons for this, one of which is cheaters. The problem of auxiliary software on the PC was, is (already today there are versions of cheats for this shooter) and will be, while on consoles this is a huge rarity.

It took the developers not so much time to create a cheat for a new shooter

Accordingly, Xbox console owners would like to disable crossplay in order not to deal with cheaters who shoot clearly in the head without recoil, or see through walls. Also, while many gamers are great with a gamepad, the average gamer with a console controller will always lose out in responsiveness and accuracy to a PC gamer with a keyboard and mouse. Unfortunately, for now, fans of the Microsoft console will have to endure this injustice, quite deservedly watering Activision with negative comments on social networks. Especially against the background of the fact that the PlayStation does not have such a problem.

At the same time, PC gamers are also far from happy with the current situation, since consoles have a fairly powerful aim assist system. In skillful hands, it allows you to hit the enemy in cases where a player with a mouse would have missed or lost sight of the target a long time ago. But even on a platform that has never experienced problems with online, crossplay is also blocked and cannot be turned off. And while many may think that the situation is temporary, in fact it is not – in Warzone, gamers on Xbox have had crossplay mandatory for more than a year.
