The CEO of Mauá Capital, Luiz Fernando Figueiredo, commented on the speech of presidential candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) about not privatizing Petrobras. In a campaign act held on Sunday (25) in Rio de Janeiro, Lula classified the privatization of the state-owned company as “stupidity”.
For Figueiredo, the candidate’s speech is “not looking at the population”.
“What happens is that we have a monopoly on a state-owned company and Brazil pays for very expensive gasoline, poor quality, very low refining capacity and the investments, when made, are more expensive than those in the rest of the world. The population only pays the bill and has no benefits. To say that privatizing Petrobras is stupid is not looking at the population,” he told CNN on Monday (26).
The expert also commented that “governments are not good at managing companies”.
“Companies in the hands of governments did not work out either in Brazil or anywhere else in the world. With very rare exceptions, governments are not good at managing business over time,” she said.
