THE Prime Minister of CambodiaHun Sen, was diagnosed with the new coronavirus yesterday Monday (14/11) evening while on the Indonesian island Bali for meetings on its fringes G20 summithe announced today.
He welcomed world leaders over the weekend, including the US president Joe Biden and the Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishidaduring the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) summit in Phnom Penh.
He took a test last night while in the Indonesia and tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the 70-year-old prime minister said via Facebook. “I’m not sure” how I got infected, he stressed, assuring that he feels absolutely “no symptoms” of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus.
As a precaution, he did not go to dinner with other leaders last night, he clarified.
Because of the positive test, he will not be able to meet with them presidents of France Emmanuel Macron and China’s Xi Jinping in Bangkok, on the sidelines of the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) forum session, where he was invited.
An unmasked Hun Sen hosted ASEAN Friday, which continued into the weekend with various meetings with partners of this regional organization, including the leaders of the US, Canada, South Korea and Australia. The leaders of these countries are all present in Bali.
Hun Sen’s return to Cambodia is scheduled to take place within the day.
