Camera catches assault on a man at a bar table in the west of SP

Security cameras at a bar recorded a robbery late afternoon on Friday (24), in Itaim Bibi, a neighborhood in the western part of São Paulo.

In daylight, an armed man approaches a customer, who was sitting at a table on the sidewalk, and steals the victim’s watch. After committing the crime, the assailant runs away without being able to reach him.

The case took place at Boteco Rainha SP, a house founded in Rio de Janeiro, which opened this unit in São Paulo less than a year ago, on Rua Pedroso Alvarenga, a traditional point of commerce in the Itaim Bibi neighborhood.

A CNN spoke with the person in charge of the establishment, who said that no one was injured and that the police were called.

When consulted, the São Paulo Military Police said they had not received any calls for theft at the address where the images were recorded.

Civilian police investigate the case. According to the person in charge of the bar, investigators were on site this Saturday morning (25). The suspect has not yet been arrested.

The images circulated in social media groups of financial market professionals, as the bar is quite frequented by people in this field, due to its proximity to Faria Lima, where many brokerage houses and banks are concentrated.

Recent data from the Public Security Secretariat of São Paulo show that cases of theft are growing in neighborhoods considered upscale in the capital of São Paulo.

A CNN analyzed data from the neighborhoods of Itaim Bibi, Pinheiros, Jardins, Brooklin and Campo Belo.

In the month of January alone, the cases of robberies in these locations add up to 1,023. In the same month of last year, there were 777 cases of theft in the analyzed regions. The increase was 31.6%.

In Itaim Bibi, the neighborhood where the assault on the bar customer took place, in January of this year, 149 robberies were recorded, representing approximately one occurrence of this nature every six hours.
