Today, September 9, experts from Yandex officially spoke about an interesting innovation in their smart camera – now there is a special “Text” mode, which should greatly simplify the life of users. The advantage of this mode is that the user can now simply point the camera of his smartphone at any word or whole phrase to copy the text in one click – this is certainly much faster and more convenient than typing in manual mode. At the same time, company representatives noted that at the moment the camera already recognizes text in 47 languages, and the result can be saved, sent to someone in instant messengers or immediately sent to Yandex search.
There are a lot of scenarios for using this function – for example, the user does not need to manually rewrite the name of the book or textbook he is interested in, in order to later find them on the Internet. Now it will be enough to get the text in one click, then send it to the search engine and get the result. What’s more, users of this smart camera now have the ability to quickly copy text from a slide or, more importantly, an outline – students of higher education institutions will definitely like this feature. Although, of course, outside the educational sphere, there are also plenty of options for using software.
Naturally, for text recognition, the Yandex smart camera uses proprietary neural networks (yes, there are several of them at once). The first, for example, is responsible for finding text in an image that was taken with a smartphone camera. The second neural network is working to recognize this text, while analyzing the context. Accordingly, the system is able to determine the styles of letters, understand neighboring letters and words. The company said that the same technology is used when recognizing text anywhere in the “Translation” mode.
The Camera app is already available in Yandex Browser and the Yandex app for Android and iOS.
