You know that special thrill that makes adrenaline flow inside the veins and infuses energy, desire to do, a sense of vitality? Here, there are people, men and women, who have adventure in their blood. IS Camilla Cassandro, 27, is one of them. Triathlete e veteran of the Donnavventura staff, Camilla decided to try a personal enterprise: ride a bike for 550 kilometers, crossing Italy from East to West, together with his 3 and a half year old son Leonardo. “It’s true, I’m a free spirit, always looking for new businesses to launch into, for things I don’t know but which I’m sure are not wrong!”, She tells us by phone a few hours before departure, set for the morning of Monday 24 May from Padua.
The route will unfold on cycle paths for 550 kilometers, passing from Badia Polesine, Mantua, Cremona, Pavia, Vercelli, Introd to get to La Thuile, the final stage of the journey as well as the historic base camp of Donnavventura and Mammavventura, the TV format that has become famous for the fact of bringing together women (and mothers) who love to test themselves in the face of difficult but not impossible challenges.
“Apart from the first stage, which requires about 50 kilometers, I plan to cover 100 a day, and to arrive at my destination by Saturday,” he says. “In addition to being a journey in a winning combination mother / child, it will be a journey based on the story of the birth of the first cycle paths (1895) and how the first road signs were created two years later”, explains Camilla who firmly believes in sharing this experience with little Leonardo because he knows well how, from an early age, children need genuine stimuli and to know what surrounds them. «I want to convey the desire to discover and” devour “the world while respecting the environment, educating the little one right away to practice responsible tourism», he specifies. On the other hand, with this enterprise Camilla wants to be an incentive for many other mothers who are afraid to move and travel with small children. “Our children are a plus for us, and with the right organization we can deal with any situation”, underlines Camilla, who has thought of every single detail to prepare for the trip “because I can’t go to pieces with him, but with the right preparation and the right spirit you can face any journey ».
The good thing is that Leonardo inherited from his mother the great sense of adventure and love for the bicycle. “He took the bravest and most enterprising part from me! For this I would like to give him some positive emotions that are not found within the walls of the house… I don’t know what he will remember when he grows up, but I am sure that the most beautiful sensations will remain impressed on him ». Leonardo will travel on a special trolley connected to the bicycle, in absolute safety. Much of the equipment for this trip was in fact provided by sponsors who wanted to accept Camilla’s invitation to support this enterprise and finance it by contributing to travel expenses.
The project Cycling towards the West, in fact, it is not an end in itself: the funds raised through sponsors but also through voluntary donations on the dedicated page of the gofund.me platform will go to the Braccio di Ferro di Padova association that deals with supporting children with cancer problems. “Becoming a mother led me to concretely take into consideration realities that you know exist, but on which you never focus too much attention. I realized that it is a great fortune to have healthy children, who have the opportunity to do things and live life normally ».
