Camilla’s usual clothes

Each of his releases does not send online shopping sites into havoc and he does not even have a blog dedicated to his style. There is no “Camilla effect” as soon as one of his shots comes out but despite this the Duchess of Cornwall it has a recognizable look but above all it belongs to it 100%. If Queen Elizabeth immerses herself in color to be seen by everyone from hundreds of meters, the daughter-in-law is the exact opposite. Elegance and discretion are the watchwords of a day wardrobe to such an essential point that, by scrolling through the images that portray it, one realizes that in the end often wears the same clothes.

If it weren’t for everything they went through together, this would be enough to pay off Carlo and Camilla two soul mates. The Prince of Wales is famous for refurbishing old clothes and for having shoes older than his children and, when the lens lingers on his figure, patches and seams can be seen from time to time. As for Camilla, however, she is always impeccable and her outfits seem to have just come out of the tailor shop even if they have a few years on the straps.

Allergic to big brands, she hates shopping. Her stylist does everything (one personal dresser as they say in the palace), a professional in the field of etiquette who also includes the queen mother in her court CV. Jacqui Meakin, this is her name, helped the future king’s wife find a compromise between the Barbour and the muddy boots and the needs that the status of wife of the heir to the throne would have imposed on her over the years. It was she who introduced them Fiona Clare in 2005, the year in which the two lovers finally joined in the always desired wedding, the trusted designer who signs most of Camilla’s outfits.

The tailoring of the garments she wears is tangible as well as the indications she provides to those who take care of her seem evident. Her wardrobe is overflowing with A-line dresses, pleats in abundance and shy V-necklines that sometimes look like slits and even the colors are always a little bit the same: forest green, blue, light blue and cerulean, lots of white and pastel and geometries simple. This is why it is hard to grasp the difference: even when they are different, they always seem to be the same. A signature look really textbook.

During the pandemic Camilla confessed that in jeans he was so well that he knew he would have a hard time getting out of it to get back to the usual real grind of handshaking, prize giving and license plate unveiling. That may be why he has repeatedly shown off with infinite ease a denim dress looking for the right mix between comfort and opportunity, a sort of buffer between the pandemic and a new-found “normality”. Among his musts there is also one dark blue cape which she uses as a sort of passepartout and, among the «comfort dresses», there is undoubtedly the greenish one with the white collar. Among the suits, on the other hand, a black one consisting of a jacket with finishing on the sides and a knee-length skirt has a sort of replica also in dark green while the powder pink one with rounded lapels is the solution for official events.

If you live in floral pattern they are difficult to distinguish from each other, it is easier to disentangle between the lines and polka dots. The polka on it is a motif dear to Camilla: of a jacket-dress outfit the blue and white combination is played in negative and positive (in reality there is also an ocher-colored option with the same slit on the jacket). As for the variations on the theme “we dressed in the sailor” we have horizontal and vertical stripes. In the latter case, the movement between blue and white is from the pleated skirt. For the summer, however, is not missing a cool, almost gray, ice blue dress: the pattern is similar to that of the other dresses but the light fabric reveals a checked pattern.

Of course, Camilla is not a fashion icon like Diana but it is not even comparable to the ninety-five year old mother-in-law all in colors and hats. He will not wear international brands but this is basically the real luxury, when you can slip into tailor-made clothes that fit like a glove: maybe that’s why he can’t part with it. There aren’t multitudes of Camille wannabes around the world who want to dress like her at all costs. This is what makes it unique. A true queen. A queen of her style.
