The city of Campinas (SP) confirmed on Tuesday (20) the first death by Chikungunya in history. According to the Campinas Department of Health, the victim was 49 years old and resident of the region covered by the Health Center (CS) of Jardim São Marcos neighborhood.
The folder said the man already had comorbidities and presented the symptoms on March 25. The victim was admitted to a public hospital on March 28 and died on April 3.
This year, the municipality of Campinas (SP) has already confirmed five cases of chikungunya. Three cases were indigenous, where the infection occurred in the municipality, all in the same region of the Health Center (CS) of the Jardim São Marcos neighborhood.
In relation to the other cases, one was imported from another state and another case it was not possible to confirm whether the transmission occurred inside or outside the municipality.
By comparison, the year 2024 reported 12 cases, four indigenous, four imported and four with indefinite infection sites.
Actions in the region of the São Marcos Jardim Health Center
The Secretariat of Public Services has removed 105 tons of waste irregularly discarded in the neighborhoods that are part of the São Marcos Jardim Health Center region. The action took place last week.
Health prevention and control actions were also taken between January and May this year. Searches of other suspicious cases were performed, sensitization of professionals from the region’s health center for early suspicion and proper investigation of any case, as well as breeding control, water cash and nebulization.
