Canada and Russia have imposed sanctions on officials

Russia’s Foreign Ministry has announced sanctions against 313 Canadian officials, including Prime Minister Justin Trindade.

Apart from Trinto, Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie, Defense Minister Anita Anand and most members of parliament are no longer allowed to enter Russia.

According to Moscow, the sanctions were imposed in retaliation for the “anti-Russian” stance of the Canadian government.

Earlier, Canada imposed sanctions on 15 Russian officials who “facilitated and supported” the invasion of Ukraine. “President (Russian Vladimir) Putin has made the choice to extend the illegal and unjustified invasion and may also make the choice to end it immediately and withdraw his forces,” Jolie said. “Canada will not hesitate to take further action if the Russian leadership does not reverse its course,” he added.

The Canadian sanctions, which affect government and military officials, were announced shortly before Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the Canadian Parliament via video call.
