Canada announces new sanctions against Putin’s daughters and Russia’s allies

In response to Russia’s war in Ukraine, Canada announced on Tuesday that it was imposing new sanctions on 14 close associates of the Russian regime, including the two adult daughters of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The information was released in a press release from Global Affairs Canada.

“Canada continues to support the brave men and women fighting for their freedom in Ukraine. We will continue to impose severe costs on the Russian regime in coordination with our allies and we will relentlessly seek accountability for their actions,” Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly said.

According to the Canadian chancellor, Putin’s government allies who support the conflict in Ukraine will “answer for their crimes.”

The statement said the new measures demonstrate that “Canada will not relent in holding Russian President Vladimir Putin and his associates accountable for their complicity in the Russian regime’s invasion of Ukraine.”

Global Affairs Canada also noted that it intends to implement further measures in response to “serious atrocities and human rights violations in Ukraine, including war crimes and suspected crimes against humanity”.
