Canada: Clashes in Capital Ottawa – Pepper spray by police, smokers by truckers

The Canadian police set up today a major road axis in front of Parliament, using pepper spray to remove hundreds of truckers remaining in the center of Other and complains, for three weeks, for health measures.

“Protesters continue to be aggressive and clash with police. They refuse to obey orders and leave,” the capital, the capital, said in a Twitter post after the clashes erupted overnight. .

Police said they used chemicals to deal with the “disobedient” drivers, some of whom fired smoke and formed a human chain. Around noon on Saturday, local time, police regained control of the street passing in front of Parliament and made 47 arrests.

Minutes before the new police raid, protesters in the center of the federal capital shook the snow from their placards, while others tried to warm themselves around a fire, to the deafening sound of crows.

“I’m not leaving,” one of them, Johnny Rowe, told AFP. “There is no going back. Everyone here, and I together, have seen our lives ruined by what has happened in the last two years,” he added.

Police have warned that those who remain there will be arrested, accusing drivers of endangering their children as many protest along with their families. Some chose to leave, removing their trucks from the streets. “I’m leaving today,” said one of them, Vince Green, explaining that he must return to Calgary to care for his children. His wife was a nurse but lost her job because she refused to be vaccinated for Covid-19, he said.

The “Freedom Convoy” was launched in late February by truck drivers protesting the mandatory vaccination of those making international transports between Canada and the United States.
