Canada: Deputy Prime Minister Freeland resigns after disagreements with Prime Minister Trudeau

Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, in a surprise move, tendered her resignation today amid disagreements with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau over Donald Trump’s threats to impose 25% tariffs on all Canadian products. “We have come to disagree about the best way forward for Canada,” Chrystia Freeland wrote in her resignation letter to the Canadian prime minister, which she posted on X. “Today, our country faces a great challenge. The new American administration is pursuing a policy of aggressive economic nationalism,” he said.
