Canada: Sends an additional 150 troops to Latvia

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trindade said today that his country was sending an additional 150 troops to Latvia and was expanding its military operations in Eastern Europe following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Canadian troops were first sent to Europe after the annexation of Crimea by Russia in 2014.

During a visit to Latvia with Trinto, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said that Russian President Vladimir Putin had “seriously underestimated” Ukraine and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

For his part, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said from Latvia that Putin had been isolated and that the whole world was on Ukraine’s side.
