Canada: The Ambassador Bridge remains closed

Canadian police removed protesters and vehicles that prevent movement on a vital trading axis at the US border, moving to some arrests, but the Amsandor Bridge has not opened so far today.

A fierce confrontation between Canadian police and protesters broke out yesterday, as a warrant and arrest warrants failed to end the blockade of the bridge in Windsor, Ontario, which is now in its sixth day.

“Law enforcement operations continue in the protest area with arrests. Vehicles are being evacuated. Please continue to avoid the area,” local police said in a tweet today, without giving details of the number of arrests.

Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Friday, removing more than 50 protesters by truck. Winsor police wrote in a tweet: “Zero tolerance will be shown for any illegal activity.”

Late last night, Windsor police arrested a 27-year-old man for mobilization-related crimes as part of the Freedom Convoy, the first arrest since the bridge began last Monday.

Despite the court order to end the occupation and the imposition of a state of emergency by the province of Ontario, police have not been able to completely disperse the crowd and restart border traffic.

“We hope it opens today,” Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens told CBC News when asked about the opening of the Ambassador Bridge.
