Canadian Minister of Finance: G7 evaluates joint tariffs on low -value Chinese imports

Canada’s Minister of Finance, François-Philippe Champagne, confirmed Wednesday that the countries of the seven (G7) group are considering coordinated efforts to impose taxes on Chinese imports of low value.

Outstanding comments

  • The members of the G7 are considering addressing the problem of the increase in Chinese economic goods, which are often sold through electronic commerce platforms at prices that evade traditional tariffs.
  • The problems of overcapacity and the behavior not based on the market are distorting global trade.

This happens after the United States (USA) decided to revoke the call of minimis Exemption for certain Chinese e -commerce shipments.

Market reaction

The American dollar index (DXY) has been under a renewed salesman pressure after these comments, losing 0.35% in the day to quote about 99.70, at the time of writing.
