Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tests positive for Covid-19

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has tested positive for Covid-19, he announced on Monday (31).

Trudeau and his family have been in isolation for days after announcing an exposure to Covid-19. At least one of his three school-age children has also tested positive, according to the prime minister’s office.

Trudeau did not reveal how he was exposed. He met in person on Wednesday with several members of his cabinet.

The Trudeau family was moved to an undisclosed location as a precaution as protests continue in Ottawa by opponents of health restrictions against Covid-19.

The events began as a protest by truck drivers who opposed vaccine demands and gained a following calling for an end to other anti-Covid measures.

Canada has one of the highest vaccination rates in the world, with about four in five Canadians fully vaccinated, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

Trudeau warned Canadians this month to take shelter for the winter.

“The pressure on the healthcare system is tremendous, and as much as we can do, all of us, individually, collectively, to ease the pressure on the hospital system, our exhausted healthcare workers on the front lines, I think that’s really what this is all about. we need to focus,” said Dr. Howard Njoo, Canada’s deputy public health chief.

The prime minister had not previously reported contracting Covid-19 during the pandemic, although his wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, tested positive for the virus in March 2020.
