Canalys estimates global EV sales up 39% in 2020

Experts from the analytical company Canalys summed up the results of 2020 in the global electric vehicle market. According to analysts, sales increased by 39% compared to 2019 and reached 3.1 million units. By comparison, the passenger car market as a whole shrank by 14%. Canalys experts predict that by 2028, electric vehicle sales will grow to 30 million units, and by 2030, electric vehicles will account for almost half of all passenger cars sold in the world.

Note that in 2020 the share of electric vehicles did not reach even 5% of all new car sales. But it is expected that already in 2021 it will exceed 7%, which will correspond to more than 5 million units. The forecast for the period up to the end of the decade is clearly shown in the graph.
